Mabantu

A prominent duo in Tanzania’s Bongo Fleva scene, Mabantu was established in 2013. The group features the talents of Twarha Kanengo (known as Twarha) and Mwarami Kajonje (who goes by Muuh). Hailing from Nachingwea in the Mtwara region, their path to stardom began with modest roots. Today, they are celebrated for their dynamic performances, lyrics rooted in everyday life, and a dedicated following.

Beginnings and Group Start

Prior to launching their own project, both artists were part of Mkubwa na Wanawe, a Dar es Salaam-based creative collective started by Said Fella. They had relocated from their hometown around 2011–2012 and joined the center, where they honed their craft amidst the challenges of city life. This period, though difficult, was crucial for their artistic development. In 2013, they departed to forge their own path, officially creating the act known as Mabantu.

Their chosen name honors the Makonde community, an ethnic group from southern Tanzania renowned for its vibrant cultural and artistic traditions.

Path to Prominence

Widespread acclaim arrived in 2020 with the massive success of their track “Sponsa,” which dominated airwaves and became a cultural staple. This momentum was powerfully amplified by their follow-up collaboration “Nawakera” with Young Lunya, cementing their status as major figures in the industry.
